The age-old dilemma.
I want chocolate
…But I need greens
But I WANT chocolate.
Enter the Fake-Out Shake.
1/2 cup water
2-3 ripe bananas, frozen
A handful of mild tasting greens, like spinach
1 1/2 to 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
Ice, if your bananas aren’t frozen
Directions: Place greens and water in blender, then blend until smooth. It will look like green juice. Then place cocoa powder, then bananas in blender. (Putting the powder in first reduces clumps and sticking to sides of blender.) Add ice if desired and blend until smooth.
It looks like a milkshake and tastes like bananas dipped in delicious chocolate, with nary a hint of green to give away the goodness hiding inside. I have crammed as much as three handfuls of spinach into this recipe with no ill effects on the taste. I find this drink to be gently relaxing, mood boosting and it helps kick my cravings too. Try it with a dollop of peanut butter, or add a little chili powder for a kick. I plan on substituting warm water and leaving the bananas room temperature for a healthier twist on hot chocolate.
